Shear’s Dual-Weapon Attack technique in conjunction with his Ambidexterity allows him, using only an Attack maneuver, to attack with two weapons simultaneously in the same turn. He should roll to hit separately for each hand. He can attack one target, or two if they are adjacent. If both attacks are aimed at a single opponent, they will defend at -1 as their attention is divided.
Disarm (B400): State you are attacking the weapon. You are at -5 to hit a C melee weapon, -4 to hit a reach 1 weapon, and -3 to hit reach 2+ weapons. You can ignore additional -2 to hit a weapon if you use the Hook technique. If you hit and the foe fails to dodge/parry, roll a Quick contest of your ST/weapon skills against their ST/weapon skill(or DX if it is a missile weapon). Your foe will get +2 if they are using a two-handed weapon. If you win their weapon flies 1 yard in a random direction. If you tie or lose they keep it but it is unready unless they won by 3 or more. If you critically fail you lose your weapon.
Shear comes from the Kyeeia clan of the Tomai of the Crooked Mountains. During the Flesh Wars, the Kyeeia (whose avian forerunners come from the stock of eagles) were used as scouts, raiders and commandoes. They were rightly feared for their swift and deadly guerrilla tactics – striking hard and fast from the air where the enemy were vulnerable, and then retreating to the safety of the skies before an effective defence could be mounted.
When the Flesh Wars were over, the Kyeeia (like many eagle Tomai) decided to make their home in the distant and isolated Crooked Mountains. There they have formed a semi-nomadic tribal society, hunting game around the lowlands in fall and winter and returning to the mountains in the spring to watch over their hatchlings.
Shear grew up with his nest brothers, riding the thermals over the mountain peaks, learning the arts of hunter and warrior. His tribe specializes in a form of combat using twin axes – the clashing talon technique. Before he can become a fledged adult, and chose a mate, he must prove his worth to his people by leaving the ancestral homeland, and venturing out into the world of the flesh-folk. When he has performed a task of valour, and returned with proof, only then will he be deemed a full member of the Kyeeia Tomai.
Shear, like many of his people, has a brusque and fierce demeanour. He’s young and eager to prove himself. Though he has many natural gifts – he’s a good hunter and fighter, he is proud and overconfident. His people trade with merchant caravans that pass through the lowlands, so he has learned some of the common speech, though it grates through his avian vocal chords. However, Shear views the man-things with a good measure of distrust – a hostility which is often returned by the world at large, that sees him as something of a barbarian. Shear’s hot temper has often landed him in hot water, though he has so far managed to come out relatively unscathed.
In terms of appearance, Shear resembles nothing so much as a six foot tall eagle in the shape of a man. His arms are wings, which he can fold in half where a human’s wrist would be. He has a muscular chest, covered by a painted leather vest. His legs have the proportion of a human’s, but end in an eagle’s talons. His plumage is a deep brown, lightening to gold at his wing tips. Shear can be off-putting to strangers – he has the fierce glare of an eagle, and like a bird, he tends to dart his head rapidly, always on the lookout for prey or danger.
