It is unknown when the village of Granite Hollow was first founded, however the barony was established in 9,912 A.E., following the conclusion of the SIlver War.
Granite Hollow is located in central Hestial. To the north lies an escarpment on bedrock that looks over a valley. To the northwest lies the granite quarry that is responsible for the name of this area. A river runs from the northeast to the southwest. The Trader’s Road, which runs from the capital Haveed to the city of Skepshire, is found running east-to-west, and is directly adjacent to the village of Granite Hollow.
Granite Hollow has a humid continental climate with warm, humid summers and cold winters. The city experiences four distinct seasons, with considerable variance in day to day temperature, particularly during the colder weather season.
Granite Hollow’s economy is driven by the production from the nearby granite quarry and olive orchards, as well as the income generated by the proximity to the Trader’s Road.
There is no permanent policing force stationed in Granite Hollow. When an intervention is required, civilians are deputized and a posse is formed until the issue has been resolved.
Offenders to the law of the land are brought before the Baron for sentencing.
Taxation of land and business owners occurs and funds civil works as well as being forwarded to the capital for the national treasury.
There is no permanent military force stationed in Granite Hollow. When military support is required, troops are generally deployed from the capital or from a closer squadron currently on patrol.
Vilkas Estate: Lying north and separate of the village of Granite Hollow, the residency for the Baron of these lands lives in a tasteful and modestly-sized manor surrounded by well-tended grounds. The estate holds stables, servants quarters, the family mausoleum, a private orchard, and a well-spring.
The King’s Prayer: The only lodging to be found in Granite Hollow, and a larger inn than one would suspect for a village of this size, it manages to do good business as the Trader’s Road sees a high volume of traveling tinkers and merchants seeking refuge for the night.
Smithy: Used to mending horseshoes and staving barrels, this smith won’t have much of an armory for sale here.
General Goods: Carrying food rations and farm supplies this bare bones shop may not have much of interest to a band of adventurers, but someone looking to unload some unwanted gear may find a willing buyer.
Broken Tower: The ruins to an old watchtower on the valley escarpment found to the north, this crumbling structure’s basement contains the secret and enchanted entrance to a forgotten safehouse that belonged to Varkas Vilkas, of the Brotherhood of the Wolf.
Graveyard: The village graveyard serves as a final resting place for the people of Granite Hollow. In the summer of 10,162 A.E. a mausoleum in this graveyard was used by a mysterious figure wielding necromantic spells who seeked entrance to the safehouse at the Broken Tower and the secrets contained within.
